Autumn Planting / Plantation d’automne

Having paid a visit to Magasin Vert, I came away with some lettuce plants suitable for the autumn and early winter.
I decided to plant them in an area that had been full of poppies and wild-flowers during the summer. Having cleared the area, I dug it over and raked it level. It was incredibly dry despite recent rain, so, after applying a sprinkling of organic fertiliser I gave it a good watering.

It will now be left for a few days to let the seeds left over from the weeds to germinate then they can be hoed to kill them off before planting the lettuces.
Even though it is dry I will be using organic slug pellets like the ones pictured here as they are very effective and not harmful to pets or wildlife.
Handy Hint : always check the price per kilo before you buy as large packets are not always the best buy!

Hi Denis.
Just started following the blog. Can you give advice/blog on planting 1000 bulbs in a small wood. Thanks Bryan.

Hello Bryan,
Thanks for your comment and for following the blog.
It’s an interesting question and, as the bulbs are now coming into the shops, I’ll be writing a post on it very soon.
Thanks again – stay tuned…
Denis

Hello Bryan – new post up today about Woodland Planting – hope it’s helpful. Have a nice evening.
Denis

Merci Denis.

With winter coming and leaves about to drop I will soon be starting my winter maintenance on my borders mainly edging and mulching. Any tips or wise words? No rush for an answer…..yet!
Bryan

Hello Bryan,
Re mulching, have a look at the latest post on Autumn leaves for starters. I’ll be returning to mulching for low maintenance very shortly.
Denis
